Frequently Asked Questions

  • Client Questions

    Q. What appointment times do you have?

    A. We have therapists that see clients between 7:00 am-7:00 pm Monday- Friday. We typically do not see clients on weekends.

    Q. Do you see adults and/or couples?

    A. Yes, about half of our practice is made up of adults working on marital issues, parenting issues, parenting after divorce issues, adult ADD and other life transition issues.

    Q. How do I know who the right therapist is for me?

    A. When you call or send an email for inquiry, you will be connected to the therapist that seems to be the best fit for your situation. When you speak, you should explain a little bit about what is going on and get a feel for their style. Each therapist here will take the time to spend up to 20 minutes discussing your situation in detail. At the end of the call if they seem right, you can schedule and if they do not you can ask to speak to someone else.

    Q. How long does therapy usually last?

    A. This really depends on many factors, it can range from three months to over a year.

    Q. How often do I have to come?

    A. Also depending upon your particular situation, it can range from two times weekly to twice monthly. On average, people come in once a week.

    Q. I am divorced and my ex-spouse has joint custody, I think my child needs therapy, how does this work?

    A. We need to get a consent to treat your child from both you and your ex-spouse.

    Q. How long are the sessions?

    A. They are 50 minutes long.

    Q. I have a teenager aged 16 or older and they want to come to therapy, do they need my permission?

    A. No, they do not. In the state of Colorado they may receive treatment on their own accord. Without their permission for us to share information with someone else, we cannot do so. This teen would need to provide payment for each session so it is rare that this becomes an issue without parent consent.

    Q. I would like to ask my therapist a few questions before coming in, can I do that?

    A. Sure, we encourage you to ask those questions when you are interviewing your therapist on the phone and/ or when you are scheduling an appointment.

    Q. Do you have an on-call therapist accessible?

    A. No, we do not, we each practice independently of one another. As a collective, we believe that in order for us to be the most balanced and healthiest we can be, we need time off to rejuvenate and take care of ourselves the way we encourage others to take care of themselves. In case of an emergency you should call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.

    Q. Sometimes I just need to run something past my therapist between sessions, can I do that?

    A. Yes, there are two ways to do that. If it is to reschedule an appointment or a quick conversation under 10 minutes we will call you back between sessions or in the evening. Some of our therapists also answer questions regarding scheduling via email or secure messaging through our practice management software system. If it is a matter requiring more time than that, we can schedule a phone consultation. The fees are calculated by 15 minute blocks. This is an excellent alternative to trying to schedule an additional session during the week. You must be an active client to utilize this service.

    Q. Can we have sessions via Skype or other video conferencing?

    A. This is different for each therapist. For therapists who do tele-health sessions, they are able to do so though a software program that is HIPPA compliant.

    Q. What is the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist?

    A. A Psychologist is a Doctor of Philosophy or a Doctor of Psychology who treats clients through a variety of psycho-therapeutic methods that do not involve prescribing medication. They are licensed though DORA in the state of Colorado. A Psychiatrist is a Medical Doctor who primarily prescribes psychotropic medication to patients as a way to manage psychological distress.

    Q. Can anyone in your practice prescribe medication?

    A. No, but we would be happy to refer to a psychiatrist, nurse practitioner, homeopath, nutritionist, acupuncturist or any other practitioner if we think it may be helpful to your treatment.

    Q. If you are just seeing my child for an appointment, can I leave and pick them up at the end of their session?

    A. Depending on the child and their age, we ask that you stay within the premises so that if a situation arises in which a therapist or the child would like you to join us you are readily available. This should be discussed ahead of time with you and your therapist.

  • Payment Questions

    Q. What type of payment do you accept?

    A. We each individually accept personal checks, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover and most HSA cards.

    Q. Do you accept any types of health insurance?

    A. We do not. However, in cases where the provider you want to work with is not “in-network” you may pursue reimbursement from your insurance company. We can provide you with a statement that you can submit for “out of network” provider reimbursement. This is more likely to be accepted through a PPO plan (versus an HMO plan). Depending on your insurance provider, they may or may not accept that and they may require your therapist to disclose treatment information. Some insurance companies reimburse you between 70-80% of what they deem to be "reasonable and customary" fees. This can vary greatly and if you want to pursue this, you should first speak to your medical insurance provider.

    Q. What are your fees?

    A. Hourly fees for therapy range from $150.00-$250.00 per session. School observations and evaluations vary in cost and can be discussed and determined ahead of time with the clinician who you will be working with.
